It was enormous pleasure speaking with Wendy Maltz! Wendy is an author, sex therapist and expert on porn addiction. Her influential book, The Porn Trap, is a must read for any person struggling with addiction or their loved ones. Today we dig deep into how to help young people addicted to porn. Quitting PMO is just the first step in a journey of healing.
This conversation covers so many important topics related to healthy sexuality. One of my favorite gems that Wendy shared is "Real healthy sex has no negative consequences". It sounds so simple but the truth is, today that experience is elusive to so many people either because they are feeling disconnected, used, guilty, shameful, objectified, fetishized, performative, etc. Many of these issues are the result of porn but also other outside influences including culture and religion. Wendy says healthy sex makes you better. But how do you get to that place when your culture and porn are heavily influencing you?
For parents as well as teens, I love Wendy's explanation of how porn steals your sexual freedom. If your parents take a healthy approach to discussions about porn, young people have a greater chance of enjoying a lifetime of sexual freedom and pleasure.
